Simons Elk Creek Ranch: Guest Room/Bathroom Before and After

Simons Elk Creek Ranch: Guest Room/Bathroom Before and After

For the first time ever, we have a guest room!

With company visiting, we decided to take on the basement, where the guest room (which will also double as Troy's office) will reside. The rest of the basement will be music-, school-, family-room. I'll be sharing the rest of the basement before long, I hope!

If you've been following our fixer-upper progress over on Instagram, you know we demo'd and (mostly) finished this guest room in one weekend (including Church and lunch afterwards. ;) )  Even we were surprised!

Here's the before + after of the basement guest room:

The room was carpeted and had three colors of wall and ceiling paint in olive and mustard yellow.

BEFORE: (from before we purchased the home.)

We took out the carpet, painted the walls and installed really durable, waterproof vinyl flooring.

We painted the ceiling with "Polar Bear" by Behr, the walls "Silver Drop" by Behr and the dark accent wall we used "Chimney" by Behr.

We shopped for some new bedding, and then shopped our own house for furntiure and decor.

Bedding: Target's Fieldcrest line + Sheets: Target + Pillow on bed: Old Homegoods + Pillow on bench: Old World Market, Sheepskin rug: Costco

Wall sconces: Amazon + Nightstands: Used our old kitchen barstools: World Market

Sources:

Baskets: collected at Goodwill + thrift stores, large one old from World Market, and unique ones from Zimbabwe when Troy was there. Similar baskets here.

(Tip: I used small nails and found holes within the basket to affix them to wall. A few had a string already attached to back for hanging.)

Ceiling light fixture: Home Depot + Leather armchair: old from Round Top Texas, similar one here at Pottery Barn.

Sources:

Standing desk (will be Troy's future office too): Pottery Barn.

We really do love how the guest room turned out!

Here's the before and after of the guest bathroom:

The vanity was so outdated and worn out that we figured we could make a huge improvement simply by painting the bathroom, changing light fixtures, and installing a new vanity!

Vanity: We purchased on clearance, similar here + Vanity Top: similar here + Fixtures: Moen Banbury collection + Towels: Target, GraceLaced for Kirkland's artwork: Kirkland's

Well, there you have it. We still have much to do to finish things up in this room/bathroom, but I hope this, at the very least, serves as a little inspiration for what you can do with your outdated spaces. It's amazing what paint, lighting, and flooring can do. With a little elbow grease and apparently a weekend, a dingy dark space can be welcoming.
