I’m restless, O God, at night and in the light,
in my thoughts and in the secret places
of my heart’s desires.
I toss and turn as if resisting sleep,
like one who has not found what she’s looking for. But you may be found,
and I have been found by you.
For those you find and rescue,
the yoke of slavery to sin is no more.
Rest is not just a possibility but a promise.
So I bring everything that is unresolved, imperfect,
and not how it ought to be,
and I set it before your throne,
where you are seated,
at rest,
not standing anxiously,
to see how it will all turn out.
Calm my anxious heart, O Lord.
Deposit within me the peace
that passes understanding
so that, should I be tossed about
in life’s storms, I will find rest for my soul
in the raft of your sure salvation.
I will rest in thee; let me rest in thee.
