Hey friend...
Was your day a flop? Did you say words you wish you hadn't, harbored anger you wish you didn't, or treasured things of your own kingdom over the Lord's?
Or was your day a success? Did you check off your list? Did you follow through with all that you promised to do? Did you find your heart cheerful and quick to do good?
Friend. if you are redeemed by Christ, your answer to those questions may determine how you feel about your day, but they don't determine where you stand in Christ. If your day was a flop, take heart...your failings don't keep you from Christ; but if your day was a success, be tempered...your achievements don't commend you to Him either.
Our anchor is in and through Him alone: "We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf..." (Hebrews 6:19)
If you need to lean in close to our Savior right where you're at...go ahead, don't delay: Enter in to the inner place. You are welcome there...
Perhaps you need the reminder as I do tonight: Our Savior is not impressed by our good deeds. He's not impressed by the number of verses we've memorized or how fervently we've kept our schedule. He's not even smitten with our good attitudes...not if they are done apart from surrender to Him.
So, friends, success or failure, great victories or epic disappointments...our HOPE IS SECURE. From there...from that ANCHOR, we can respond in obedience, holiness, and steadfastness. Tethered to the unmoveable weight and anchor of the Cross, we are made free to an obedience we would not know otherwise.
I'm needing to remember tonight. Hope you will join me, behind the curtain...
(*I'm considering the possibility of offering this custom order painting as a print in the shoppe. Let me know in the comments if you'd be interested. No promises, but I'd love to hear from you!)
Much love to you...
