If God declares: You shall have no other god before me, (Exodus 20:30)
which means
You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might, (Deuteronomy 6:5)
then you must
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life, (Proverbs 4:23)
because
Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:21)
Is it any wonder, then, that
Where your priorities are, there your time will be also. (Gordon MacDonald)
So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom (Psalm 90:12)
and
Lord, make me to know my end and what is the extent of my days; Let me know how transient I am. (Psalm 39:4)
since if this is true of me:
You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body. (C.S. Lewis)
which is made evident in the fact that
For just as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead. (James 2:26)
But because
I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man, but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and maing me a prisoner of the law of sin which ins in my members, (Romans 7:22-23)
I am beyond grateful that
the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. (Romans 8:2)
And if it's true that we
...were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another, (Galatians 5:13)
for
This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, (1 John 5:3)
Then, to live free is to obey...
...the greatest commandment:
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind (Matthew 22:37)
and
...have no other Gods (Exodus 20:30)
for
No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money, (Luke 16:13)
and
Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you (Psalm 63:3)
is what we declare to our God,
Man's primary purpose: to glorify God and enjoy him forever (Westminster Shorter Chatechism)
serves to be both the love and the commandment...the purpose and the fulfillment.
