Honestly, it used to be my least favorite time of day - wrestling with littles to listen and receive encouragement from God's word at the start of the day. It felt chaotic and futile, and I always felt ruled by my met or unmet expectations. My good intentions and efforts felt unrewarded.
But coming to Him daily ourselves, or as a family, isn't about us or what makes us feel like we are *succeeding* at spiritual growth. I think we spend so much time trying to measure and evaluate how well we are doing sometimes that we forget to simply SHOW UP...
COME is the invitation from the Lord. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)
He doesn't say: Come with your strategy, come with your schedules, come with your awesome track record, or come with your well-behaved children. Jesus simply invites us to come and lay down our pride + expectations, and receive His provision + purposes, even when they don't look the way we want it all to, yet...
In personal time in the Word, family worship, spiritual growth, or mothering...perhaps the most influential thing we can do today is to do the next thing and keep showing up in faith.
