I come to this Mother's Day unlike any other. Aside from sweet cards and warm thoughts, I'm celebrating this Mother's Day with a bittersweet exchange of honesty and uncovered truths with my own mom, that has resulted in what, to me, is the most beautiful of Mother's Day gifts: I know my mom as a woman, a woman with a history, a woman of strength, a woman with regrets, a woman with dreams...a woman who is not just my mother, but someone I would call my friend. "All things" do indeed "work together for good for all who love him, who are called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)
So, I leave you with this: Happy Mother's Day to all of the "invisible women" we celebrate this weekend; and, especially to my Mother, who built whole-heartedly when no one was watching.
