This boy, #3...Judah, was home sick today. When I told him I wanted to sketch his profile, he was baffled and confused. He hadn't seen me draw any real person before. Well, my dear...it's because I did a lot more of that long before you were born.
And so he held really still and stood real straight. He was proud of being my first subject in a long long time. It's difficult to capture those you love. It's not easy to put all the charm, spunk, intensity, and frecklage (that's a word isn't it!?!) onto a sheet of paper. I drew him perhaps a year older than he looks in real life...and my heart aches and rejoices simultaneously. This boy is no little kid anymore; he's becoming a young man.
This boy never holds still, but he did for me today.
It's not so hard to sit still and be at rest when you know you are the subject of great love and adoration. When you feel the gaze of someone who knows you inside and out. When you believe you are unique and there is no one else quite like you....
"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." -Psalm 139:14
I'm drawing close to the portrait of being uniquely created today.
